Are you creative, passionate, and eager to see community built through art?
Perhaps you have wondered how the arts fit into economic development, or maybe you are just interested in learning how to build an artistic project from start to finish. By participating in L.E.A.D., you will explore various styles and methods of 2D and 3D art while developing leadership skills in individual and team situations.
L.E.A.D. will not only give you the confidence and skills to create your own art, but also the ability to bring it forth into the world!

This past year we launched our first L.E.A.D. program...
L.E.A.D. was designed to provide the tools needed to shape and guide our future leaders, with a specific focus on utilizing art and creative process as a way to engage with community. The program culminated in the installation of a new sculpture piece in Gaylord's Art in the Alley - which you can visit today!
Otsego County teens from Gaylord, Johannesburg, Lewiston, and Vanderbilt came together once a week to learn what leadership looks like through the process of planning and designing a metal sculpture that now permanently resides in Art in the Alley. Students worked with community leaders to budget, obtain permits, propose options, and facilitate the project from start to finish.
While working through the administrative side of the arts, they also engaged in many hands on art projects through various visual art mediums, such as painting and sculpture work.
We are grateful to all the members of Gaylord Arts and the Gaylord Community at large that helped make this program possible and enriching for those who participated. L.E.A.D. was made possible through funding by the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and Community Financial Credit Union's Relentless Care Foundation.
