We are delighted to bring to you our annual Black and White Exhibition. Color has a powerful impact on how messaging, meaning and mood are expressed and received, for example, yellow captures feeling associated with happiness, hope and spontaneity. Then there are colors that also have metaphorical or symbolic meanings, such as black and white. Actually black and white are not even colors, rather they are representations of light, white is all light and black is the absence of light. This exhibit explores the play between black and white and the contrasting shadows that are created that inspire artists. The nature and meaning of the use of black and white with added color remain open to personal interpretation and imagination. Each piece, however, represents a particular perspective of light or the absent of light as seen through the eyes of the individual artist and are just one facet of a more complex story.

The 2022 exhibition showcased more than 45 pieces of art that celebrated the long established artistry of fiber. This form of artistry is associated with material that consist of natural or synthetic fiber, and other components, such as fabric or yarn. This creative form was first recognized after the war to characterize original art developments in textiles and to help define works being done in fiber since 1920. Fiber art focuses on the materials and the manual labor on the part of the artist, aesthetic value over utility is typically prioritized.
