Intro to Oil Painting: Session 2

Beginning Oil Painting is a class designed as an introduction to
working in the oil medium and understanding color. Students
will learn color by mixing it and applying it to canvas. There will
be exercises in setting up a palette, applying an image to canvas
by wiping away the values resulting in tonal rendering of form.
Students will learn fundamental methods and techniques to
describe a painting with light. This workshop is designed for
the student with little to no oil painting experience.

Materials List -Students to bring:
1 primed stretched canvas – 12 x 16 or larger
Brushes – prefer filbert style long handled.
Gambsol Medium (or odorless turpentine)
Linseed Oil
2 small glass jars with lids for mixing medium
Pallet box or paper for oil paints
Cotton Rags and paper towels
Color Image to paint printed on 8 ½” x 11” paper – (second
workshop) Please bring your photo to first workshop for
discussion/approval.
